JSBESTECH Daily Turning Process (4): Crafting a Claw Hammer
Welcome back to the JSBESTECH daily turning series. Every week, our workshop dedicates a session to hands-on turning and machining practice, allowing our team to demonstrate the real capability of our equipment. Today, we are pleased to present the fourth episode of this series, in which Master Jiang takes on a classic and practical project: turning a claw hammer from a solid copper rod.
Project Overview
For this build, Master Jiang selected a No. 95 copper rod as the raw material. Using our company's drilling and milling machine together with our lathe, he completed the entire process by hand, from rough shaping to final finishing. The result is a fully functional claw hammer that showcases both craftsmanship and the precision of JSBESTECH machinery.
The claw hammer is a demanding test piece. It requires accurate turning for the handle and head, precise milling for the flat surfaces, and careful drilling for the eye and claw geometry. Each step depends on stable, repeatable machine performance.
Machines Used in This Project
Our drilling and milling machines are designed for versatile metalworking tasks. They can be used to drill holes, perform secondary drilling operations, and mill flat surfaces with consistent accuracy. In this project, the drilling and milling machine handled the hole preparation and surface flattening, while the lathe shaped the copper rod into the desired hammer profile.
Beyond lathes and milling machines, JSBESTECH offers a broad range of workshop equipment. Our bench drills and grinding machines are also very popular among customers who value durability and reliability in daily production.
Why Copper and Why This Project
Copper is a soft yet demanding material. It machines cleanly but requires sharp tooling and stable feed rates to achieve a smooth finish. Working with a No. 95 copper rod allows our team to demonstrate the responsiveness of our machines under real workshop conditions. The claw hammer format adds complexity, since it combines turning, milling, and drilling in a single workpiece.
Projects like this reflect the way our customers actually use JSBESTECH equipment: for varied, practical jobs that require a machine to switch between tasks without losing accuracy. Whether you are producing tools, fixtures, or custom parts, the same principles apply — rigid construction, reliable spindle performance, and easy operation.
